The Gion Matsuri is likelily Japan 's most celebrated festival and traverses the whole (! ) of July in Kyoto. On assorted years there are different events which go on but most impressive are the darks initiating to a parade which haps during the day. I was luckily in Kansai for most of July so was lucky plenty to see some of the Gion festival. There are 3 darks where wall street are shutted forth for the footers and special floats sit throughout wall street. High on the floats there are really instrumentalists who play flutes whilst the emanation pass off. There are too stables selling nutrient and many people come wearing yukata ( traditional Nipponese dresses for the summertime ). I was in Kyoto for one of these darks and I was able to take some pictures. After the 3 nighttimes there is a parade which passes early one forenoon ( I make n't retrieve the specific date though ), I sought to see it but lost it. But, luckily I spoke with a woman at the Yasaka Shrine and she sayed me something else was occuring in the even. I rested in Kyoto the whole day and in the eve there was a 2nd parade with people dressed in traditional vesture and some special bozo sitting on horseback. Anyhow, if you 're seing the Kansai part so it 'd be rattlingly good if possible to see Kyoto during July in order to see the Gion Matsuri- it verily is something not to be lost!!

Oh, and simply one last thing the festival was really begun by a cult of the Gion Shrine ( The original name for the Yasaka Shrine ) in Kyoto as constituent of their actions to lenify ' revengeful boozes cognise in Japanese as goryou. ' This was back during the Heian Period, a clip when a good deal of the nobility were really supersticious. Bask the pictures, I 'd love to see the festival again and take more photos!!
